It is that time of the year again where I start planning for the 2013 fishing season. Also, it is Xmas and suggestions are made on gifts....Well, I am looking for a Super Seeker Rod to match my Avet JX 6/3 MC Raptor reel which I want to use to throw iron and such. I want a model with a lively tip, but with some backbone...I have been spying on 8 ft. SSD8-8'CT 20-50LBS model...Any suggestions....I like Seeker Rods......"Merry Christmas and I hope to see ya on the Big Blue Water...."

Sounds like your looking for a 40 lb stick so you may want to check out a 6480 also. In Baja waters a 40 lb iron rod works great but locally I use something rated to fish 25- 30 lb test. I find 40 lb is just not needed for surface iron on trips 3-4 days less in length. 40-50 I use when fishing for the skins and you have a chance of getting picked up by a YFT which mostly are trips 6 days or longer.

Thanks, I will take a look at that "stick" soon...I primarily go out on the 5 to 7 day trips where BFY, YFT, Yellowtail and Wahoo are the target fish....This year, I might try a 10 to 12 day trip for those bigger fish down south....Thanks again!!!

I'd look at a 6480h or 800xh for a versatile combo that can fish 40-60bait and iron.

If its surface iron only, the SS Ulua full 10' length would be awesome, but you better be ready to become very good friends with the rail. Also not sure if the JX will fit the fat butt that rod has.

I used a Calstar 800ML with my JX Raptor on a 1.5 day recently. Calstars have a stiffer top section then Seekers. Even with the ML it did not bend a lot when casting sardines. I bet with iron I could get a healthy bend in it though. I think the 800 ML would be good for iron and Super Seeker for bait and iron.

Tackle stores love me.
Fish fear me.
