Here we go again: 60 lb. set up for bait, possible yoyo, dropper loop, and maybe even lite trolling? A very versatile 2 speed with no binding issues. A hx series in the Raptor version? I currently have a Talica 20 for the 80 lb stuff, would this slide right in under that? I also have a Trini 40n for the 50 lb yoyo.... Thoughts please?
The HX is a great reel for use at 60, standard or Raptor, both are quite comfortable at that level of drag. Makaira 15 or 16 also fits the bill well, though a bit heavier it will shine on the trolling side and dropper use. Penn's 16 covers some of those bases, but their newer lever drag two speed 40N will do it better. That may be the strongest contender for the multiple role you intend. That reel has a lot going for it, strong suggestion to play with one. Penn did well with that series, well designed, made here, very well thought of reel by those who take 'em apart for a living.
To clarify the Penn model number that Mark is referring to, it is the Torque TRQ40NLD2 and it would indeed fill this role extremely well, as long as its "narrow 4/0" configuration holds the amount of line you want.
