I have a calstar 6480 rod wrapped several years ago. I have used it as a jig stick with a penn master mariner wahoo special reel. I want to upgrade to a newer reel. What do you guys recommend for fishing 50lb test?

Thanks

That master marineer is a damn good reel and would be a tough one to replace. They mentioned a few good reels to look at but I think the Avet HXJ 5/2 should be on that list.

Have you considered a Daiwa Saltiga 30T. A little more money then the others, but well worth it to me.

Last year I was on the same quest. I tried the 113HN, 533, Saltiga, Trinidad, YTS, and the Accurate 665, but I quit looking for my Wahoo Special replacement when I got my hands on the Torque 300. It's kinda like RAID for fish....it kills 'em dead.

Master Mariner = 349H?

If so, you have a good reel already but parts are hard to find.

Master Mariner? Casting for wahoo with a 6/0 size reel? That was done way back when men were men and the women were too.LOL
Get a Torium 20 or 30.

As my Wahoo Special seems to be in demand-I am willing to bargain!

Take a look at the Accurate 665 2-speed. It weighs less than the Torque. And, to me it is a significant step up in quality.

If you really want a single speed, go with the Saltiga.
