Good luck. In general, it is impossible for a guy to really test a line's break strength without the proper equipment to do so. We have a $3500 line test machine here, not perfect by any means, but it's quite good within it's limits of line test. What I'd like costs over 10K, just the pieces to hold the line run $750 each! A bucket of weights won't offer the same level of accuracy, won't come close and will provide incorrect data.
Having said that, to test the drag and set the reel appropriately isn't hard to do and the equipment not terribly expensive. A spring scale with tell-tale may run $20, a better all brass Manley scale perhaps $60-80, that's about all that's needed.

Hey Mark, Do you offer that service? I send some samples line in, you test it out and charge me a fee? I am interested in knowing what’s the exact poundage of my line and some PR knots
The machine does very well at lighter tests of say 50# down and can work on heavier stuff. But, as test increases the error associated with manually cranking the tension. So, a few samples of each is always a good start, say 3 samples. If testing heavy 100# even 80 may prove hard to do well. So, if working within the limits mentioned it can be done as time permits. If you are planning on coming over with the line, then best to give Sergey here a call to be sure of schedule.
What I'd like is a different machine, but that one costs about 10K and the two line holders run $750 ea... That one is electric, can work heavy tests and allows more line loaded, more space, better accuracy.
Thank you. What I meant was sending it in and you test it when you have time. You are too far away for me to come in for the test LOL. So the cost testing 40, 50, 70 & 80 braided line will be? How many yards to send in per poundage?
The machine will require about 5-6 feet, knot at the mid-point, 3' on either side. 3 samples per test. Pick ONE, I'll suggest the 50#, we will test that at n/c.

No Mark, I am mailing the 18 feet of line in by snail mail. I actually just got the mail returned (for whatever funny/stupid reason)..... anyways, I sent it out again few hours ago to:

Yep, got it and tested the line today. First test came in at 44 lbs., my son did the second and third test. Some tester variance... Very skinny line, smooth finish. Numbers: 44, 41, 39,This message has been edited. Last edited by: Chark,
